European Neolithic ‘Pecked and Ground’ Axe-Hammer
Diorite, 1.25 Kg, 16.70 cm. Circa 3,000 BC. A massive battle axe-hammer in a greenish-grey diorite, deeply patinated, with a rounded rectangular hammer face and a truncated diamond-shape top profile, central cylindrical hafting hole skilfully drilled, retains much of its preliminary pecked surface, shows interesting signs of use in antiquity on blade and hammer.
