Extremely Rare Tudor ‘Elizabeth I’ Disc Weight 017329

Extremely Rare Tudor ‘Elizabeth I’ Disc Weight 017329
Extremely Rare Tudor ‘Elizabeth I’ Trade Weight
Lead, 210 grams, 51.59 mm dia. 16th century AD. A discoid weight of about 11mm thickness. The upper face is stamped with the design 'EL' beneath a crown, and an inverted script 'R'. The 'EL' stamp with its crown above is the mark of Queen Elizabeth (1558-1603) and is very rare on lead weights. The reverse bears a retrograde 'VII' incised by hand: this might be a denomination mark, but is more probably an informal mark of ownership. Reference: Biggs, N. & Withers, P. Lead Weights - The David Rogers Collection, The English Weights Series - 6, Llanfyllin, 2000 especially cf.p.54 item 5. Good very fine condition. Provenance: found Co Durham, England.
