Unpublished Geta 'Fourée' Denarius
Silver, 2.62 grams, 17.97 mm. Rome 209 - 211 A.D. Obverse: P SEPT GETA CAES NONP (with reversed N's), instead of published legends which read ‘PONT’. Laureate and draped bust of Geta right. Reverse: P M TR P III COS III B P, Pax standing left, holding olive branch and cornucopiae, star in right field. An excessively rare and unpublished coin. An ancient counterfeit or unofficial coin with a base metal core and a precious metal surface. Very fine 'as-found' condition.
A leading coin expert writes: "There is only one coin the reverse of which - with a high degree of probability - acted as the host coin, namely RIC 4-2, 29 (Cohen 161) of Elagabalus, with P M TR P III COS III P P reverse and Pax standing left holding branch and cornucopiae, exactly as on this coin. So it was struck 9 years after Geta's assassination".
