Greek Apulian 'Egg-and-Tongue' Black-Glazed Oinochoe
Ceramic, 295 grams, 178 mm. Circa 4th century BC. An Apulian oinochoe or wine-jug in black glaze with a single looped handle, scrolled rim, bulbous belly and stepped foot, with red and white slip decoration on the belly comprising yellow egg-and-tongue below a red band with roundels, wavy-line and ovolo ornament above. Extremely fine condition, complete. Provenance: from an old English collection, found Apulia, Magna Graecia, South-eastern Italy.
