Greek Apulian 'Xenon Ware' Southern Italian Dish
Clay, 235 grams, 174.02 x 35.05 mm. Apulia, Magna Graecia, South Eastern Italy, circa 400-350 BC. A raised dish with black glaze and shallow bowl with a rounded rim on a rounded base. The whole surface is black gloss over red clay. Reference: Xenon ware is a specific type of Apulian pottery, so named after a vase in Frankfurt (Beazley, EVP, p. 219,1.). Slightly distorted, but otherwise undamaged excellent condition. Provenance: from an old English collection.
