Clay, 150 grams, 148.44 x 76.67 mm. Apulia, Magna Graecia, South Eastern Italy, circa 400-350 BC. A Skyphos (wine cup) with black glaze and deep bowl with curved rim and two horizontal looped handles upon a short rounded base. The whole surface is black gloss over red clay. Reference: Xenon ware is a specific type of Apulian pottery, so named after a vase in Frankfurt (Beazley, EVP, p. 219,1.). Cracked and repaired, otherwise excellent condition. Provenance: from an old English collection.
