Greek Apulian 'Xenon Ware' Southern Italian Wine Cup
Clay, 185 grams, 122.87 mm x 65.13 mm high. Apulia, Magna Graecia, South Eastern Italy, circa 400-350 BC. A wine cup with black glaze and deep bowl with flat rim and a single vertical looped handle on a rounded base. The whole surface is black gloss over red clay. Reference: Xenon ware is a specific type of Apulian pottery, so named after a vase in Frankfurt (Beazley, EVP, p. 219,1.). Excellent undamaged condition. Provenance: from an old English collection.
