Greek Gnathian 'Vine Leaf Scroll' Black-Glazed Oinochoe
Ceramic, 205 grams, 139.89 mm. Circa 4th century BC. An Gnathian oinochoe or wine-jug in black glaze with a single looped handle, scrolled rim, bulbous belly and stepped foot, with red and white slip decoration comprising ovolo on the neck and running vine leaf scroll, wavy line and ovolo on the shoulders, with egg-and-tongue on the belly. Extremely fine condition, complete. Provenance: from an old English collection, found Apulia, Magna Graecia, South-eastern Italy.
