Greek Apulian 'Rosette Design' Black-Glazed Epichyses
Ceramic, 155 grams, 142 mm. Circa 4th century BC. An Apulian Epichyses or wine-jug with a high handle in black glaze with red, white and yellow ochre designs comprising vertical white bars on the neck above bands of diagonal bars on the shoulder and radiating red bars on the flange, rosette design on the lower body and flange base; the handle D-section, the spout c-section with flanking lugs. Handle repaired, otherwise extremely fine condition, complete. Provenance: from an old English collection, found Apulia, Magna Graecia, South-eastern Italy.
