Henry III 'Durham / Peres' Short Cross Penny 022325
Scarce Henry III 'Durham / Peres' Short Cross Penny
Silver, 1.18 grams, 15.94 mm. 1217-1222 AD, Class 7a, struck in a collar. Obverse: facing bust with sceptre and HENRICVS REX legend. Reverse: voided short cross and quatrefoils with +PERESONDVR legend for the moneyer Peres at Durham mint. S. 1356A; N. 978(B). Very fine, the Durham mint coins in this brief period and sub-class were, uniquely, apparently struck in a collar that ensured the finished coins were truly round; the coins also have a raised rim and smaller diameter than other issues, scarce.
