Excessively Rare Iceni 'Boar/Horse' AR Unit
Silver, 0.97 grams; 13.73 mm. Mid - Late 1st century BC. Icenian C. Obverse: boar right, ring of pellets above, three pellets below, upper portion of boar's front leg comprised of two lines, ring on shoulder. Reverse: Celticized horse right, ring of pellets and three pellets above, standing on exergual line, tail made up of a single strand with shorter lines coming off at an angle. Celtic Coin Index Registration Number at Oxford University: CCI 09.3007. VA. 655-1 variant. Very fine/good very fine. Found Norfolk.

Dr John Sills of the Celtic Coin Index at Oxford University writes: “the best struck specimens of this type nearly all have a pellet in annulet on the boar, as here, but on weakly struck and worn coins it's often not visible or appears to be just a pellet.”
