Indian 'Hindu Divinity' Bust 008311
Indian 'Hindu Divinity' Bust
Copper-alloy, 90 grams, 61.26 mm. Post-medieval (16th-18th century AD). A cast bust of a Hindu deity with closed eyes, elongated earlobes, arched eyebrows and ornamental headgear comprising a cylindrical cap with lozengiform decoration and two triangular projections at the temples. On the crest of the cap is the base for an additional emblem, the loss of which makes identification of the deity problematic - possibly Shiva or Brahma. Reference: Desai, K. Treasures of the Heras Institute, New Delhi, 1976 fig.101-4. Very fine condition, some damage to neck and crest. Provenance: from an old English collection.
