Late Anglo-Saxon/Viking 'Addorsed Beasts' Stirrup Mount
Copper-alloy, 11.67 grams; 43.97 mm. Circa 10th – 11th century AD. An Anglo-Scandinavian stirrup mount of Williams's Class A Type 1, characterized by its pentagonal profile and incised decoration. The design consists of two addorsed lateral animal heads with long, drooping necks bound together in a mesh of tendrils. The reverse flange carries a single rivet-hole. Reference: Williams, D.
