Late Anglo-Saxon / Viking 'Enamelled' Disc Brooch
Copper-alloy, 4.51 grams, 25.14 mm. 11th century AD. A cast disc brooch with central cell filled with dark blue enamel. To the perimeter are placed seven D-shaped lobes, each with a blue glass cabochon insert. The pin-lugs and catchplate are present to the reverse. Reference: Hattatt, R. Brooches of Antiquity, Oxford, 1987 item 1314. Fine uncleaned 'as found' condition. Provenance: found Hull, Humberside, UK.
