Late Anglo-Saxon/Viking 'Latticed Openwork' Lozengiform Stirrup Mount
Copper-alloy, 17.27 grams, 43.37 mm. Circa 10th - 11th century AD. This type of Anglo-Scandinavian stirrup-mount - Williams's Class A Type 12 - with latticework detailing on the design may be found in both closed and openwork versions. The mount is formed as a lozenge with an internal saltire, the junctions decorated with raised bosses and the lattices bearing incised detaling. The upper mounting point is fractured across the rivet-hole. The rear flange is complete with two piercings for attachment. Reference: Williams, D.
