Late Anglo-Saxon/Viking 'Latticed Openwork' Lozengiform Stirrup Mount
Copper-alloy, 19.24 grams, 45.45 mm. Circa 10th - 11th century AD. An Anglo-Scandinavian stirrup-mount of Williams's Class A Type 12 with fine detailing on the latticework design. The mount is formed as a lozenge with an internal saltire, the junctions decorated with raised bosses and the lattices bearing incised detaling. The upper mounting point is complete and the round the rivet-hole is an incised decorative line. The rear flange is complete with a single piercing for an attaching rivet.
