Viking / Anglo-Scandinavian 'Lobed Cross' Disc Brooch
Copper-alloy and enamel, 4.91 grams, 24.18 mm. 10th-11th century AD. A classic form of Late Saxon or Anglo-Scandinavian disc brooch comprising a central enamel panel surrounded by radiating knops (two remaining) filled with enamel cabochons (one remaining). The central panel is a dark blue enamel background with an inset cross formed from four elongated lobes in pale blue enamel. The pin-lug and attachment point for the catchplate are in place on the reverse. Reference: West. S.
