Luristan Bronze Age Flange-Hilted Dagger 014838
Luristan Bronze Age ‘Type IV’ Flange-Hilted Dagger
Copper-alloy, 225 grams, width 44.5 mm at junction of hilt with blade, length 381 mm overall. 10th-9th century BC. The distinctive feature of the Type V flange-hilted dagger is the solid, cast penannular ridge at the junction of the hilt with the blade, and the fan-shaped pommel. The flanges on the hilt's sides provide a setting for bone or wooden inserts. The rectangular-section median rib of the blade is very pronounced and the blade itself is a triangle extending laterally beyond the penannular projection. The surface has been professionally conserved. Reference: Khorasani, M.M. Arms and Armour from Iran. The Bronze Age to the End of the Qajar Period, Tubingen, 2006, p.59-60. Very fine condition. Provenance: from an old English collection.
