Rare Luristan/Marlik Bronze Age 'Type V Variant' Spearhead Copper alloy, 85 grams; 231.22 mm. Circa 14th-10th century BC. A variant of the type V spearhead, flat slender curving blade with almost pear-shaped shoulders and short tang; the usually pronounced rounded midrib of the type V is substituted here for a double raised midrib that curves outward at the shoulders. Ref: similar to one found at the Marlik Royal Cemetery by Dr. Negahban in Tomb 47, trench XXII E; see Negahban (1995:67; plate VIII, 100), Arms and Armor from Iran by Manouchehr Moshtagh Khorasani, page 625; cat. 270. A very good example, slight ripple in the blade otherwise in very fine condition. Ex old English collection.
