Medieval Armorial 'Openwork' Horse Harness Pendant
Copper-alloy and gilt, 9.85 grams, 49.67 mm. Circa 14th century AD. A pendant and suspender comprising a T-shaped bracket with a teardrop-shaped pendant. The upper end of the pendant is pierced to accept the retaining pin of the bracket; from this the pendant is divided into two addorsed c-scrolls below which it forms an openwork rounded triangle with hatched and linear vegetation ornament. The remains of gilding are present across much of the surface. The fixing lugs have been removed at the back for easy mounting and display. Reference: cf. Read, B.
