Silver, 5.35 grams, 22.24 mm. Circa 17th century AD. A finely made seal matrix in robust silver. The base is sub-octagonal rising to a facetted hexagonal column surmounted by an elaborate double volute and suspension loop. The seal design is armorial, consisting of a broad-based shield with four charges: a bar in fess between three crosses fitchy. These arms appear on merchant tokens associated with Humphrey Sarjent of Pleshey, Essex; Sarjent lived from 1613 to 1674 and was a haberdasher. Reference: Harvey, P.D.A. & McGuinness, A.
