Rare Medieval 'Bifacial' Crucifix Pendant
Silver, 1.83 grams, 27.09 mm. Circa 14th century AD. A cast pendant depicting the crucifixion on a flat cross with tripartite lobed finials, the body situated beneath a sign bearing the 'INRI' legend. On the reverse, a shrouded figure with the left hand raised to its mouth, the right resting in its lap. The design of the piece is similar to the crucifixion scene in late 14th and early 15th century manuscripts such as the Lapworth and Carmelite Missals. Reference: Alexander, J. & Binski, P.
