Medieval 'Bifacial' Silver-Gilt Figural Strap End
Silver-gilt, 45.87 grams, 20 cm. 15th century AD or earlier. A section of sheet silver strap with three keyhole-shaped piercings, two blocked from the reverse; decorated on the outer edges with geometric gilt bands enclosing gilt images of a goat, cat, bird and lion executed in a naive style; to the reverse two outer bands decorated with alternating hatched blocks; the left edge cut straight with central indent from a fourth keyhole piercing; the right edge cut ragged. Very fine condition. Provenance: Silk collection, London UK; formed in the 1950s.
