Medieval 'Cross and Pellets' Bullion Coin Weight 020763

Medieval 'Cross and Pellets' Bullion Coin Weight 020763
Medieval 'Cross and Pellets' Bullion Coin Weight
Lead, 65 grams, 43.59 mm diameter. 14th century AD. A cast uniface circular weight, bearing a raised cross with a pellet in each angle. Reference: see Biggs & Withers Lead Weights, The David Rogers Collection, number 35 for a lighter example of this type. Very fine condition with even patina. It has been suggested that weights bearing the cross and pellet design reflect the reverse of 14th century silver long cross pennies and were used for weighing such coins in bulk.
