Medieval 'Crowned Head' Buckle
Copper-alloy, 3.43 grams, 22.45 mm. Circa 14th century AD. A cast copper-alloy buckle with D-shaped loop and internal bar. The outer face of the loop is formed as a human bust with a tridentine crown. Reference: cf. Egan, G. and Pritchard, F. Dress Accessories 1150-1450, London, 2002 fig.568 for a buckle with a facing crowned head. Very fine condition. Provenance: found Tilbury, Essex, UK.
