Rare Medieval 'Decorated' Lead Spindle Whorl Group
Lead, 297 grams, 24-34 mm. 12th-15th century AD. A mixed group of cast spindle whorls comprising: one biconical with raised foliage design; one biconical with broad pelletted rim; one plano-convex with incised star and pellets design; one plano-convex with raised chevron design; two globular with lozenges to the rim; one plano-convex with raised radiating ribs. Very fine condition, rare types. Provenance: ex Penfold collection, discovered 'mudlarking' on Thames foreshore, 1970s-80s.
