Very Rare Medieval 'English Crowned Lions' Ridged Finger Ring
Silver, 7.41 grams, 24.31 mm ext.dia. 20.14 mm int.dia. (British size U½, Continental 23.15, USA 10¼). 15th century AD. A robust silver ring with ridged bezel and shoulders, decorated on the band with punched sunburst motifs. The bezel bears a confronted pair of crowned lions. The lower hoop is formed to replicate a decorative twist. Reference: Oman, C.C. Victoria and Albert Museum Catalogue of Rings, 1930, reprinted Ipswich, 1993, plate XXX item 720. Very fine condition. Provenance: found Godshill, Isle of Wight, reported as treasure and disclaimed 2004/5.
