Medieval 'Epigraphic' Disc Mount
Copper-alloy, 5.81 grams, 35.05 mm. Circa 13th-15th century AD. A sheet copper-alloy disc mount, pierced close to the edge for attachment. The face is ornamented with a shield-shaped design inside which the Lombardic letters 'E' and 'S' are present. Reference: Read, B. Metal Artefacts of Antiquity, vol.1, Langport, 2001 items 78, 88. Very fine condition. Provenance: found Leicestershire, UK.
