Medieval 'Foliate Cross' Weight
Copper-alloy, 12.59 grams, 30.24 mm ext.dia. 16th century AD. A flat disc weight with recessed underside, bearing a lightly incised design consisting of a central bilinear square from which spring four radiating foliate patterns with punched ring-and-dot details, and a row of pellets around the rim. Reference: cf. Elizabethan recessed trade weight in Murawski, P. Benet's Artefacts, Ely, 2003 item M18-0208. Very fine condition. Provenance: from an old English collection.
