Medieval 'Head of Jesus' Church Carving
Limestone, 9.3 Kg; approx. 9 x 5 x 7 inches. Circa 15th Century A.D. A weathered limestone church block which would have been mounted at a high elevation. The head of Jesus looking down on his congregation, with a fringed hairdo, staring eyes, beard and moustache. The protruding sculptured head merges into the square stone block which would have formed part of an important walled area. Limestone is known as the warmest and most healing of all building materials. Complete with display stand. Extremely Fine condition. Found Norfolk.
