Medieval 'Knights' Heraldic Horse Harness Pendant
Copper-alloy, 6.80 grams, 37.47 mm. Circa 13th-15th century AD. A cast copper-alloy pendant in the form of a heater shield with a transverse lug above, pierced for suspension. The face of the shield features a reserved cross with the four voids filled with red enamel. A red shield with a gold cross is found in the arms of many ancient towns and cities in Europe, from Uppsala in Sweden and Lübeck in northern Germany to Izaux in the Hautes-Pyrénées region of southern France.
