Medieval 'Limoges' Face Mount
Copper-alloy, 10.61 grams, 32.46 mm. 12th-13th century AD. A hollow-cast mount in the form of a human bust. The hair is indicated by a raised panel with several series of incised lines. The brow and nose form a single element framing tear-shaped eyes, and the mouth is a transverse slit. The upper body is covered by a cloak with a fringed border which falls from the right shoulder across the chest. Reference: Gauthier, M-M. & François, G.
