Medieval 'Limoges' Figural Mount
Gilt copper-alloy, 5.99 grams, 39.83 mm. 12th-13th century AD. A hollow-cast mount in the form of a human male in classical robes with hands folded across the upper chest. The lower body is absent and the torso is twisted to one side, probably to join onto another fitting. The eyes are almond-shaped, the nose and cheeks bulbous, the folds of cloth indicated by raised ribs. A small hole in the neck accepted the attachment pin. Reference: Gauthier, M-M. & François, G. Catalogue International de l’Œuvre de Limoges, Paris, 1987. Very fine condition. Provenance: from an old English collection.
