Medieval 'Per Fess' Heraldic Stud Mount
Copper-alloy, 4.20 grams, 16.61 mm. Circa 14th century AD. A cast copper-alloy stud in the form of a heater shield with its field divided horizontally (per fess), with traces of yellow and red enamel. The lower end of the shield is curved inwards and the stud on the reverse is about 8mm long. Reference: cf. Read, B. Metal Artefacts of Antiquity, Vol.1, Langport, 2001, item 257. Very fine condition. Provenance: from an old English collection, found Wiltshire, England.
