Medieval 'Punched Point' Mirror Case
Copper-alloy, 16.91 grams, 46.43 mm. Circa 14th century AD. A cast copper-alloy mirror-case formed from two discoid castings from the same mould, with a recessed inner surface and bilinear punched-point cruciform design to the outer face. The hinge is completes by the addition of a short pin while the securing mechanism is open. Reference: cf. closely similar items from medieval London in Egan, G. and Pritchard, F. Dress Accessories 115-1450, London, 2002 fig.241 (1714, 1715, 1716). Good very fine condition. Provenance: found Bedfordshire, UK.
