Medieval 'Rampant Lion' Trade Weight
Lead, 115 grams, 42.34 mm. 13th-15th century AD. A substantial trade weight formed as a heater shield-shaped block with a raised central panel. The surround has a pattern of radiating billets. The inner shield bears a rampant lion. Reference: Murawski, P. Benet's Artefacts of England and the United Kingdom, Ely, 2003 item M18-0201. Very fine condition.
