Extremely Rare Medieval 'Seal Matrix' Man's Finger Ring
Silver, 15.56 grams, 21.36 mm across. Internal 17.93 mm [UK size P 1/4, US size 7 3/4, Europe size 16.45]. Circa late 14th - early 15th century AD, probably made during the reign of Mircea the Elder (ruler of Wallachia 1386-1418). Formed from a wide band, flaring slightly to where it is affixed to the back of the circular bezel. The 22.91 mm diameter bezel is incuse and reverse cut to provide a seal with the central design of a highly stylised bird with wings spread and the legend +S'[-]ED[-]A*I[--]A[---], possibly not legible but derived from the Slavic language.
