Medieval 'Steelyard' Weight
Lead, 395 grams, 49.49 mm. Circa 14th century AD. A cast weight of hexagonal shape and tiered and weighing just under 14 ounces. The body of the weight has an excised cross on two opposing sides and to the underside. A small copper-alloy suspension loop set into the top centre; for use on a steelyard. Reference: Biggs, N. & Withers, P. Lead Weights, for general information. Provenance: found Lincolnshire. A large weight in very fine condition.
