Medieval 'Trefoil Head' Door Key
Copper-alloy, 57.31 grams, 98.95 mm. 14th century AD. A large cast barrel key with broad D-shaped bow, waisted hollow shank and two wards with bits to the leading edge. The bow is in openwork with three peltoid voids and interstitial bars with trefoil heads. Reference: cf. solid-shank key in Wheeler, M. London Museum Medieval Catalogue, plate XXIX item 14. Very fine condition. Provenance: found near Dressingham, Norfolk, UK.
