Medieval ‘Triangular’ Standing Weight
Lead, 110 grams, 36.75 mm. 15th-16th century AD. A triangular prismatic weight of about 13mm thickness. Standing weights are designed to stand upright, although they can still be used laid flat; 'lying' weights' are mentioned in 15th century sources. The present piece has rounded edges to the upper surface, with remains of an incised border. The lower face is almost flat. Reference: Biggs, N. & Withers, P.
