Medieval 'Twisted Shank' Cosmetic Implement
Silver, 4.07 grams, 80.11 mm. Circa 14th century AD. A combined ear-scoop and toothpick formed from silver sheet, the lower end lanceolate with a median ridge forming the pick. The square-section shank is tightly twisted in seven turns and the upper end features a shallow spoon or scoop. Reference: Egan, G. and Pritchard, F.
