Medieval 'Walsingham Shrine' Pilgrim's Ampulla
Lead, 33.26 grams, 55.31mm. Circa 15th century AD. A cast hollow lead ampulla with ribbed decoration on one face of the bulb, made to contain holy water from a shrine. The upper face features a triangular design, perhaps a capital 'W' for the Walsingham shrine. Reference: Mitchiner, M. Medieval Pilgrim & Secular Badges, London, 1986 pages 138-152.
