Neolithic France 'Montry-Coupvray' Knapped Axe
Flint, 535 grams, 180mm long. Neolithic era; c. 3,000 BC. A well knapped bifacial axe from the Montry-Coupvray region in Northern France. In a pale chert with slightly pink patination and convex cutting edge. Reference: Sir John Evans The Ancient Stone Implements, Weapons & Ornaments of Great Britain for very similar pieces and parallels. Provenance: with inked site reference 'Montry-Coupvray S et M' and a pencilled find number '529'. Near extremely fine.
