North American Indian 'Polychrome Glass & Crystal' Trade Beads
Glass and crystal, 48 grams total, main beads about 10mm. dia. Circa 17-18th century AD. Five rare facetted clear quartz beads with fifty eight red or pale tubular and twenty five striped Venetian glass trade beads on a modern string. Reference: Dubin, L.S. The History of Beads from 30,000 BC to the Present, London, 1987, pp.261-89. Very fine condition. Provenance: Labelled 'Leedstown, Va', from the Dr. Alston Weaver collection. Dr Alston Weaver was a dentist and enthusiastic collector of Native American artefacts, especially those found locally in his home state of Alabama.
