Extremely Rare King Offa 'Aethelwald' Light Coinage Penny
Silver, 1.17 grams, 16.66 mm. 765-792 AD. Obverse: king's name OFFA REX in two lines divided by beaded line with forked ends. Reverse: moneyer name EDELVALD in two lines divided by beaded line with forked ends for the monyer Ethelwald at London. S. 904; N. 287; the dies not recorded in the Early Medieval Corpus at the Fitzwilliam Museum (EMC). About as struck with slight chipping to edge, extremely rare and probably a new pair of dies for the issue.
