Scarce Post Medieval 'Boar's Head' Crest Mount
Pewter, 36.02 grams, 44.57mm wide. Crest mount; 18th century AD. Of cast form with a very well detailed heraldic boar's head crest. The plain reverse shows evidence of where iron fixing studs were orginally fitted. Crest mounts of this form were affixed to harness or carriage doors to indicate the name of the owner. Reference: Fairbairn's Crests of the Families of Great Britain & Ireland for information on crests in general and of the particular family names associated with them. Slight loss to one ear, otherwise in excellent condition and a scarce item.
