Probus (July AD 276 - September AD 282) Probus was born in AD 232 at Simium. He became a p[rofessional soldier and had gained rapid promotion by the reign of Aurelian. He was proclaimed Emperor on the death of Tacitus and, following the murder of Florianus, became undisputed master of the Roman world. He had many military successes and attempted to restore the economic life of the Empire. In the autumn of AD 282, at Sirmium, he was murdered by a band of mutinous soldiers.
