Roman 'Amphora-Shaped' Glass Phial
Glass, 18.55 grams, 91.24 mm. Circa 1st-3rd century AD. A translucent dark blue-green glass bottle with a long funicular neck and a flared rim; the neck emerges from the tubular body which has a narrow, flattened base. The glass is thick and substantial with an attractive, iridescent surface. Reference: cf. Roman glassware from British finds in Allen, D. Roman Glass in Britain, Princes Risborough, 1998. Extremely fine condition, complete. Provenance: from an old English collection.
