Gold, 4.28 grams, 22.87 mm. 582-602 AD. AV solidus. Double-struck and slipped die. Constantinople, ca. AD 583-601. Obverse: D N MAVRC TIb PP AVI, cuirassed bust facing wearing plumed helmet, holding cross on globe. Reverse: VICTORI-A AVGG and officina letter S, angel standing facing, holding long, P-headed cross and cross on globe, mintmark CONOB. DOC I 5a; Sear Byz. 478. A rare double strike, otherwise extremely fine.
