Roman 'Crux Gammata' Finger Ring
Silver, 4.03 grams, 22.91 mm overall. (Approximate size British P, USA 7½, Europe 16.23, Japan 16.) Circa 2nd-3rd century AD. A cast silver finger ring with asymmetrical expanding hoop of elliptical section. On the shoulders are engraved bar-and-chevron designs. The bezel is a domed boss with an inscribed crux gammata motif symbolizing good fortune. Reference: Oman, C.C. Victoria and Albert Museum Catalogue of Rings 1930, reprinted Ipswich, 1993 item 111. Very fine condition. Provenance: from an old English collection.
